How Much is a 1934 $1 Bill Worth?

1934_1_back.png

Series 1934 $1 Bills were the 2nd Series of small-sized $1 notes. All 1934 $1 bills were Silver Certificates, which can be identified by their blue seal and serial numbers. These notes were once backed by silver and redeemable for silver dollars. Unfortunately, silver certificates have not been redeemable since 1968, but are still legal tender for their face value.

1934 $1 Bills, along with the earlier 1928 Series, are commonly known as “funnybacks” due to their older reverse design, which simply features the word “ONE”. The modern $1 reverse design, featuring both sides of the Great Seal of the United States, was not introduced until 1935.

About 690 Million $1 Bills were produced with the date 1934, making the notes much rarer than the later 1935 and 1957 series, which were produced in the billions. However, the number remaining in circulation today is much smaller.

Circulated 1934 $1 bills are worth between $20.00 and $50.00, depending on series and condition. Notes that are uncirculated are worth considerably more, as are star notes, which can be identified by a star at the beginning of the serial number.
